Terms of Use
By downloading, installing or using Parentlog, you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. About Parentlog
Parentlog is a personal record-keeping application that helps co-parents log journal entries, expenses, messages and custody calendar events in a tamper-evident, timestamped format.
These Terms govern your use of the Parentlog mobile application and website (together, the "Service"). Any rules imposed by the Apple App Store from which you download the app are incorporated into these Terms by reference. In the event of a conflict, these Terms shall prevail. Apple Inc. is not a party to these Terms but is a third-party beneficiary with respect to the app, and may enforce these Terms against you as they pertain to it.
2. Not legal advice
Parentlog is not a legal service and does not provide legal advice. The app is a personal organisational tool. Records you create may assist your legal team, but the admissibility, relevance and weight of any record in any legal proceedings is a matter for the courts and your legal advisors, not us. You should always consult a qualified solicitor or family lawyer for advice specific to your situation.
If you are using Parentlog because a court or solicitor has recommended it, please note that Parentlog operates independently of the courts and of any legal proceedings you may be involved in. We do not communicate with courts, enforce orders, or act as intermediaries in disputes.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Parentlog. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United Kingdom, you are responsible for complying with local laws in your jurisdiction.
4. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must not share your account with any other person. You must notify us immediately at support@parentlog.app if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
You agree to provide accurate and complete registration information. If we determine that your account information is false, misleading or impersonates another person, we may restrict, suspend or terminate your account.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorised by you.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Parentlog to:
- Harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse your co-parent or any other person
- Create false, fabricated or deliberately misleading records
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity
- Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene or infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, disable or otherwise interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation
- Use automated tools, bots or scripts to access or extract data from the Service
If we have good reason to believe the Service is being misused, we may need to suspend or close an account. We would only do this where necessary, and we would always aim to handle it fairly.
6. Immutability by design
Parentlog is built so that records cannot be edited or deleted after they are created. Every entry is assigned a server-set timestamp and a SHA-256 cryptographic hash at the moment of writing. This is a deliberate feature of the Service, it exists to preserve the integrity and evidential value of your records.
You should only log accurate information. Because records are permanent, you must take care to ensure the content you submit is truthful. We are not responsible for the content of records you create, and we have no ability to alter them after the fact.
7. Co-parent pairing and shared data
You may connect your account to a co-parent's account using an invite code. Pairing is voluntary. When you pair:
- All data you created before pairing remains private to you. Nothing is shared automatically.
- Only entries you explicitly mark as Shared at the point of writing are visible to your co-parent.
- Messages sent through the Service are shared between both parties and form part of the official record.
- Shared records cannot be deleted by either party unilaterally. See our Privacy Policy for further details.
You are responsible for information you share with your co-parent through the Service. You warrant that you have the right to share any content you submit.
8. Your content
You retain ownership of all content you create in Parentlog. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not claim ownership of your records and we will not use them for any purpose other than operating the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.
You warrant that content you submit is accurate, lawful and does not infringe the rights of any third party. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your records and for any consequences arising from their use in legal proceedings.
9. Subscription and billing
Parentlog is available on a subscription basis. Pricing is as shown in the App Store listing at the time of purchase. Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's payment terms and refund policies.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your App Store account settings. Access to the Service continues until the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial periods, except where required by applicable law (including UK consumer rights legislation).
If you cancel, your account will enter a read-only state at the end of your billing period. Your records will remain securely stored and accessible for export for 12 months, after which they will be permanently deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We strongly recommend exporting your records before your subscription ends.
10. Our intellectual property
The Parentlog name, logo, app design, visual assets and all related intellectual property are owned by us. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written permission. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you except the limited licence to use the Service described in these Terms.
11. Service availability
We aim to keep Parentlog available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may take the Service offline for maintenance, updates or for reasons outside our control. We will endeavour to give advance notice of planned maintenance where possible.
We are not liable for any loss arising from unavailability of the Service, including any impact on legal proceedings.
12. Limitation of liability
We have built Parentlog carefully and we take the reliability of your records seriously. That said, we are a small service and we need to be clear about what we can and cannot be responsible for.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service; loss of data where we have taken reasonable steps to prevent it; the outcome of any legal proceedings in which you use your records; or the actions of your co-parent or any other third party.
Our total liability to you in any 12-month period will not exceed the subscription fees you paid us in that period.
Nothing in these Terms affects any rights you have under consumer protection law, or limits our liability for death, personal injury or fraud caused by our own negligence.
13. AI features
Parentlog offers optional AI-powered features including tone analysis. These features are opt-in and independent, you may enable or disable each one separately in Settings.
AI analysis is assistive only an it does not constitute legal advice. AI features do not modify stored entries. You remain solely responsible for decisions you make based on AI suggestions.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Parentlog after that date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not accept the changes, you must stop using the Service and cancel your subscription before the effective date.
15. Termination
You may stop using Parentlog and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms. On termination, the following survive: Sections 6 (Immutability), 8 (Your content - ownership provisions), 10 (Intellectual property), 12 (Limitation of liability) and 16 (Governing law).
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction require otherwise.
